Questions
What is a rising sign?
Your rising sign, or ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was coming up over the eastern horizon at the minute you were born. It shapes first impressions: how you come across, your style, and how you start things.
Why do I need my birth time?
A new sign rises roughly every two hours, and some signs pass in about an hour. Even 20 minutes can change the result if you were born near a boundary. If you don't know your time, your long-form birth certificate usually has it.
Is the rising sign more important than the Sun sign?
They answer different questions. The Sun is who you are underneath; the rising sign is the front door people meet first. Many people feel their rising sign describes them better in new situations.
Why are some rising signs rarer?
Because of the tilt of Earth's axis, some signs climb over the horizon quickly and others slowly. At US latitudes Aries and Pisces rise in about an hour; Leo through Scorpio take over two. Fewer minutes means fewer people.
