February 18 zodiac sign

When the Sun enters Pisces, year by year

The exact moment for every year from 1940 to 2035, and what that made February 18. Switch the time zone to match where you were born.

February 18 in the sky

The light is coming back fast by mid-February, with sunsets around five-thirty or later in most of the country, though the snowbanks haven't gotten the message. February 18 is the last day of Aquarius, the fixed air sign that holds winter's middle. Next comes Pisces, a mutable water sign and the last of the twelve, which carries winter out toward the March equinox and the first day of spring. The Sun here is in Aquarius's final degree or very close to it, and in some years the birthday lands on Presidents' Day weekend.

Aquarius at the end of the line

Aquarius is fixed air, which tends to mean firm opinions and a mind that rarely switches off, and a February 18 birthday most likely gives you the sign nearly complete. Saturn, the traditional ruler, gives you staying power, and Uranus, the modern one, gives you a taste for doing things your own way. You might be the friend who started the group chat years ago and still won't let anyone leave it.

Plenty of people born today have a Pisces planet or two nearby, and that can soften the classic Aquarius detachment. Mercury, though, is more often in Aquarius than Pisces on this date, so your thinking usually stays clear and a bit contrarian. The friction is emotional lag: you may analyze a feeling for a week before admitting you have it. Naming the feeling early, even clumsily, helps the people who love you keep up.

When February 18 is Pisces

In years when the change landed on the 18th, everyone born after it is a Pisces. That used to happen mostly in the afternoon or evening. In recent years the change has landed here every year in Eastern time, but the hour cycles. In leap years it comes late at night, in the year after it comes before dawn, and the years between fill in late morning and late afternoon. So a recent February 18 baby born in the morning has a real chance of being a Pisces. On the West Coast, three hours behind, Pisces has the larger share of recent births. A Pisces born here starts at the first degree of the sign.

Aquarius or Pisces: what changes

Small habits tend to give the answer away. When a friend is upset, an Aquarius usually wants to understand the problem and offer a fresh angle, while a Pisces tends to feel it alongside them first and talk later. Underneath, a fixed air sign that holds steady and thinks in ideas and systems hands over to a mutable water sign that shifts with the mood of the room and thinks in feelings and images. The traditional ruler changes from Saturn to Jupiter, and the modern one from Uranus to Neptune, the planet of dreams and blurred edges. If you recognize yourself in the friend with the fresh angle, that matches the Aquarius Sun most February 18 birthdays have.

Why a February 18 birthday can feel like both signs

The idea of an Aquarius-Pisces blend is appealing, and it isn't how the Sun works. It sits in one sign at a time, and your birth minute decides which. The feeling of being both still has real sources. Mercury is in Pisces for a good share of people born on this date, and Venus is spread across four signs, from Capricorn to Aries, with Capricorn a little ahead, so your love style may not match your Sun's element at all. Your Moon and rising sign, from a full birth chart, can add water or air on top.
